1st African Conference on
Women's Shelters

1st African Conference on Women's Shelters — Building Stronger Shelter Systems.

A continental gathering on partnerships, policy and sustainable investment — strengthening survivor-centred shelter systems across Africa, convened during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.

Background & Rationale

From crisis to safety, healing and dignity.

Women's shelters provide life-saving protection and a critical pathway from crisis to recovery — yet across Africa they operate with limited financing, uneven policy recognition and few opportunities for cross-country learning. Convened by the Centre for Domestic Training and Development (CDTD) through the National Shelters Network (NSN), in partnership with the Centre for Rights Education and Awareness (CREAW) and in collaboration with the State Department for Gender and Affirmative Action (SDGAAA), this historic gathering brings African shelter providers, governments and survivor leaders together to build enabling policy, shared standards and sustainable investment for shelter systems continent-wide.
